Ignacio Bahamondes didn’t just have one of the best knockouts of the Contender Series in 2020 – he may have a nominee for “Knockout of the Year.”
The 23-year-old took on Edson Gomez in a welterweight matchup at DWCS Season 4: Week 8 following a seven-week break for the series. After an impressive first round where he picked Gomez apart, Bahamondes began to open things up a little bit more. Gomez proved his grit and toughness for as long as he could, but a front kick to the face from Bahamondes ended his night immediately.
The Chilean prospect has now won consecutive fights, and seven of his last eight as a spot in the loaded UFC welterweight division seems like a very safe bet. Ahead of his opportunity to compete in front of Dana White and the UFC matchmakers, Bahamondes had competed for promotions such as LFA, Titan FC and Island Fights.
Gomez, the current King of the Cage welterweight champion, had his three fight winning streak snapped and entered the cage after missing weight by three pounds.
